TFL Transport for London

Brief

The proposal requested entailed a system installation and upgrade of aging security system in the Rotherhithe and Blackwall Tunnel Power shafts. Dts were tasked with replacing 14 intruder alarm systems as well as upgrading a total of 49 Cameras across 14 different locations.

The existing system was deteriorating, and most sites didn’t communicate with Scada Tfl building Management system and the CCTV did not meet all the requirements of the such a huge massive organisation. Hybrid Electrical contacted Digital Technology Solutions as they required a specialist security company to install new cameras as well as upgrade existing as part of their ongoing maintenance contract with TFL.

Strategy

After several meetings and thorough site visits by a dedicated project manager as well as the lead operative a full day’s diagnosis was then carried out on the existing system carrying out strain tests, and health checks in order to verify the condition of the existing fibreoptic infrastructure which enable images and intrusion alert notification to be transmitted to the TSB Building. A full detailed proposal entailing; a brief, report, quotation, product description and a full schematic was then sent to TFL which was approved. DTS operatives were fully Ipas registered as some of the work entailed carrying out installations from a cherry picker and platforms.

Execution

Upon acceptance of our proposal, a full induction was carried out with all operatives, another meeting was then carried out between DTS project management team and the executive facilities Manager in order to order to evaluate the schematics and method statements provided to initial commencement of works. A schedule of works and RAMS  was then issued to the TFL outlining our plans and duration period of the installation. All operatives were briefed and provided full ppc with all tools inspected by DTS supervisor at the start of each day.

Results

On completion of works an inspection was carried out by Hybrid electrical and TFL, both organisations were totally appreciated the level of works required to achieve such a large operation. We expanded the system giving them clearer image resolution than the pre-existing system. We also increased the playback storage space on the system as well transforming the system from analogue to HD.  Operatives then ensured that all images  A full tutorial and customer education was provided on handover to a designated member of staff with provision for 12 months warranty along with ongoing service plan thereafter. DTS had the responsibility of carrying out works in and around the designated shafts across the north and sound bound areas of London completing works to an excellent standard. The plan put into place in order to achieve maximum security coverage, ultimately meeting all the requirements and high-risk areas in and around the Rotherhithe and black power shaft tunnels was successfully implemented over a 10-week period. DTS ensured that all sites fully communicated through Scada building management system and fiber optic cabling infrastructure laid during the construction of the millennium dome, images transmitted in 1080p to Dvr to the required location at the Tunnel service Building on a dedicated operating software and 3 CCTV monitors manned 24/7.
